Family  Code of Conduct

Introduction

As a parent or legal guardian of an athlete participating in OCVC programs, I hereby agree to abide by the following Code of Conduct. I understand that this Code of Conduct applies to all parents, guardians, and guests associated with the athlete, regardless of who signs this agreement. These expectations are in place to foster a positive, respectful, and safe environment for all athletes, coaches, officials, and families involved.

Conduct & Sportsmanship

  • I will serve as a positive role model by demonstrating respect, encouragement, and good sportsmanship toward all players, coaches, officials, and spectators.

  • I will support the entire team, not just my child, and teach my child that effort, personal growth, and teamwork are more important than winning.

  • I will not engage in any form of unsportsmanlike behavior, including taunting, profanity, threats, or physical altercations. Any behavior not aligned with OCVC’s standards will not be tolerated.

Respect for Coaches and Officials

  • I will respect the authority of coaches and officials and will not confront, question, or undermine their decisions during practices, games, or tournaments.

  • I agree to schedule any necessary discussions with coaches at an appropriate and agreed-upon time outside of competitive or training environments.

  • I will not coach or instruct my child or any other player during practices or games.

Communication & Attendance

  • I will notify the coach in advance of any conflicts with practices or tournaments. I understand that repeated unexcused absences may result in disciplinary action, including potential loss of OCVC membership at the discretion of the board

  • I will encourage my child to independently communicate with coaches when issues arise.

Facility & Event Expectations

  • I will follow all rules and policies of practice and tournament venues, including restrictions related to food, coolers, smoking, and cleanliness.

  • I will not approach the team bench, referees, or coaches during play and will remain in designated spectator areas.

  • I will not speak negatively about OCVC, its coaches, players, or families—verbally, in writing, or online.

  • I will ensure that all guests and relatives attending events with me also abide by this Code of Conduct.

Supervision & Safety

  • I will ensure my child is supervised by an adult at all OCVC events. While coaches oversee athletes during competition, they cannot be responsible 100% of the time.

  • I will check in with the coach at every tournament to identify who is responsible for my child and to provide emergency contact details.

  • My child will not leave a tournament until officially released by the coach. If early departure or late arrival is required, I will make arrangements with the coach at least 24 hours in advance.

Timeliness & Transportation & Environment

  • I will drop off my child no earlier than 6:15 PM and pick up no later than 8:30 PM for practices. I understand that coaches and board members cannot leave until all athletes are safely picked up.

  • I will not use or be under the influence of drugs, or alcohol during OCVC events, and I will ensure that the environment I provide is free from such substances.

    • All facility tobacco-use policies must be followed.

Disciplinary Action

I understand that failure by myself, or associated family/guests to comply with this Code may result in any of the following:

  • Verbal warning by an official, coach, tournament director, or OCVC leadership

  • Written warning or formal reprimand

  • Suspension from games, matches, or tournaments (parent or player)

  • Full-season suspension of the parent and/or player
