Play Time & Attendance Policy
Playing Time Expectations
Volleyball is a positional sport, and some positions naturally result in more playing time than others. Coaches make substitution decisions based on a combination of individual performance, team needs, and overall game dynamics.
While there is no guaranteed minimum playing time for athletes during matches, the following factors will be considered when determining playing time:
-
Positional needs
-
Skill level and performance
-
Effort and attitude
-
Attendance at practices and tournaments
For younger teams (U12 and under), we believe in promoting fair playing time throughout tournaments to encourage athlete development and enjoyment of the game.
Attendance Requirements and Consequences
Practice Attendance
Consistent attendance is essential to both player growth and team development. Missed practices may result in reduced playing time. The following process will be followed regarding absences:
-
3 missed practices – Parents/guardians will be contacted by the coach.
-
5 missed practices – A meeting will be scheduled between the coach, parent, athlete, and a Board Member.
-
8 missed practices – A formal Board review will take place and dismissal from the team may be considered.
Conflicting Commitments
If an athlete is involved in another sport or activity that causes them to consistently miss, be tardy, or leave early for practices or tournaments, they will receive less playing time. While OCVC supports multi-sport athletes, commitment to the team is expected during the volleyball season. Attendance and availability are critical to both individual development and team cohesion.
Tournament Attendance
If a player will miss a tournament, the coach must be notified at least 48 hours in advance.
-
Any absence without proper notification will be considered unexcused.
-
Multiple unexcused absences may result in reduced playing time or other disciplinary actions.
